It is with deep sadness that
I report three of my goslings have “disappeared.” The day after they arrived at Bon Bon Pond,
two disappeared, and the third one vanished the next day. Yesterday, while working outside, a hawk came
swooping in and scoped out my family of geese.
I put the run on him—at least for a while. ???
Last year, only two goslings survived
to adulthood.
I feel so helpless. I do everything in my power to help the wildlife, and then, I am ultimately faced with the Law of the Jungle. Stillwater is considered a bedroom community
to the twin cities, yet in spite of its proximity to civilization, this is still
quite a wild place. When we first moved
here in 1969 we decided to have barn cats to control the rodent
population. All disappeared in a matter
of weeks. Today, my two cats are never
allowed to go outdoors.
Guess I need to grow a thicker
skin and accept that Mother Nature, while beautiful and inspirational, is often
a harsh mistress. But that is for
another day. Right now I am just sad.
